DAY'S REAL ESTATE
"The Waterfront Specialists"

The Belgrade Lakes Region is Maine's premier inland resort area. Renowned for its chain of seven unique lakes, its woods and farmlands and waterside villages, the Belgrade Lakes Region is a vacation and recreation area for tourists and visitors from around the world.

A favorite summer haven for the rich, the famous and the creative in the early 1900's, it inspired that classic movie "On Golden Pond". The mailboat is still a favorite ride for visitors. Bring your picnic and camera and enjoy the beauty of Great Pond and listen to the loons.

The Belgrade Lakes consist of seven bodies of water all connected by way of brooks, streams and dams. The links of the chain include Great Pond, Long Pond, Snow Pond (a/k/a Messalonskee Lake), East Pond, North Pond, McGrath Pond and Salmon Lake.

The Belgrade Lakes have traditionally been family oriented and local summer events help maintain the image. A colorful July 4th parade and fireworks, Fishing Derby, road race, canoe races, music festival, fairs and auctions provide plenty to do for those who can tear themselves away from their cottages. The first Saturday in August brings the Bean Hole Supper and a Loon Calling Contest. The Belgrade Fire Department bakes the most fabulous beans in cast iron pots buried overnight in hot coals. Immediately after the supper, proceed to the dam between Great & Long Ponds in Belgrade Lakes Village and hear the call of loons like you have never heard before. All ages welcome. Fall brings Octoberfest on Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend. Summer may have come to an end, but this is a day to celebrate everything that fall has to offer; tractor drawn hay rides, pumpkin carving, chili tasting contest, German music and much more. Winter brings the Christmas Stroll on the first Saturday in December. An evening of holiday magic; hundreds of luminaries line the street in Belgrade Lakes Village; horse drawn wagon rides with carolers, hot cider and refreshments at area shops; visit with Santa and enjoy a warm, hearty meal at one of the Village restaurants.

As the warm weather arrives in the region the sparkling waters of the Belgrade Lakes beckon. Loons call, a mother duck paddles into a cove with a line of ducklings behind her and a sailboat silently glides by. "Relax on Golden Pond" the warm breezes seem to be saying. Now that you have seen the movie, sit on the shore of one of the Belgrade Lakes and read the book!

Climb scenic French’s Mountain or Blueberry Hill offering spectacular views of the lakes. Both trails start from Watson Pond Road off of Route 27. Also Mount Phillip on Route 225, directly across from Starbird Lane (1.5 miles east of Rome Corner) with views of Great Pond to the south of the Kennebec Highlands to the West. The Kennebec Highlands has 6000 acres containing the highest peaks, pristine streams, several wetlands and five undeveloped ponds with miles of unimproved trails and old logging roads (most unmarked) and several maintained hiking trails suitable for foot traffic only. There are plenty of places to purchase food and drinks nearby and several fine restaurants in the area. An 18 hole golf course was opened in 1999 by the Belgrade Golf Club. It has spectacular views of the surrounding lakes. The telephone number is 207-495-GOLF.

Visitors will find nearly every possible aquatic activity taking place on the Belgrade Lakes-- swimming, fishing, canoeing, sailing, wind surfing and water skiing-- yet they never appear to be crowded. Great Pond and Long Pond are a fisherman's bonanza with northern pike weighing in at 14 to 20 pounds or more as well as white perch, salmon and small-mouthed bass lurking beneath the rippling surface. This area offers something for everyone!

Come to the Belgrade Lakes Region and see what a wonderful vacation area this is!
